Hamilton, NY — Television sports producer Doug Wilson, who produced the telecast of that famous ski jump fall that remains a universal symbol of ‘the agony of defeat,’ will speak about his career on Thursday, April 25 at Colgate University. The event, which will take place in Golden Auditorium of Little Hall at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
The winner of 17 Emmy Awards, Wilson, who graduated from Colgate in 1957, has covered more than 40 different sports for ABC’s Wide World of Sports. The story of his career is interwoven with extraordinary personalities of the twentieth century such as Muhammad Ali, Grace Kelly, Peggy Fleming, Michelle Kwan, Frank Gifford, Jean Claude Killy, Jim McKay and Roone Arledge.
Wilson was honored by the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation for his production of the International Special Olympics. In 1994, the Director’s Guild of America presented him with its Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports. The Ice Theater of New York honored him for his contribution to the art of figure skating, and in 1995 the United States Figure Skating Association presented him with its Spirit of Giving Award.
Currently, Wilson is considered the world’s foremost director of the sport of figure skating. Most recently, he directed coverage of the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
